My name is Nathaniel, I currently graduated with an associates degree in drum performance at the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma, a journey I embarked on in June 2022. This program has provided me with valuable experiences and opportunities in the music field. Before this, I taught Elementary Music in Kansas for three years, where I honed my passion for music education. With over 20 years of musical experience, I have been involved in various music groups, including band, the Seward County Community College Jazz Band, marching band at Fort Hays State University, bands around Oklahoma City area such as Disco Stranger, Lover Girl and collaborations with different musicians. My musical influences encompass a wide range of genres, including Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Matchbox Twenty, Goo Goo Dolls, and classic music from the 70s and 80s. I also enjoy soft rock, Band of Horses, and indie music. Currently, I am a member of a band called Disco Stranger, and our music is available on Apple Music. In my teaching practice, I adopt a fun and relaxed style, encouraging students to explore their musical interests while we tailor lessons to those genres. I believe that students should feel confident in their learning, focusing on music that resonates with them, which enhances their engagement and retention. I emphasize the importance of music as an empowering outlet, reflecting my own experiences overcoming challenges in my learning journey. This process has instilled in me valuable skills such as patience, determination, and the ability to connect with diverse learners. One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching is witnessing my students’ growth from their first lesson onward. I primarily instruct drums and guitar, though I also teach trumpet and ukulele.
