My name is Roberta, and I am a Master Teacher in piano and voice. I have been teaching privately for more than 40 years. I am certified in Education in general and I specialized in music education and performance. As a teacher, I embrace a Constructivist pedagogy that emphasizes active discovery learning on the part of my students. All my lessons are designed to have students learn through doing by trial-and-error, solving problems, and creating new solutions. My teaching philosophy consists of 5 facets of education: • A student-centered approach to education. My lessons are always focused on the specific needs of my students. I work hard to differentiate learning so that each student’s unique skills are emphasized • A focus on active learning. My lessons are spaces for exploration and discovery. I favor practical lessons in which students get hands-on experience of whatever concept we are currently working on. • High expectations for myself and my students. Just as I do for myself, I set high standards and high expectations by promoting a growth mindset among my students. All my students understand that I expect them to try their hardest and do the best that they can every day. • I Support Authentic Learning Experiences To me, students learn best through experience. I aim to create experiences throughout the educational process that are as authentic as possible to mimic real-life application of knowledge. Towards that goal we will have the opportunity for master classes and recital/performance opportunities that I encourage the whole family to be involved in. • How I motivate my students. I work hard to motivate students by modelling an inspired, positive outlook to learning every day. I believe students learn best when they are intrinsically motivated, so I focus on creating lessons that are engaging, relevant to my students’ real lives, and encourage active discovery.
