About Me

I have been singing and playing piano often both at the same time since I was very young. I'm a native of Oklahoma and moved to East Tennessee in September 2023. Musical theatre has been my passion since High School. In the last several years I have also found a love for opera. I have a degree in Vocal Performance with Musical Theatre emphasis from the University of Central Oklahoma. With that degree, I minored in collaborative piano. My latest performance gigs have been as the pianist for Christmas in the Smokies at Dollywood 2024, and I covered the role of Rodolfo in La Boheme for Painted Sky Opera in Oklahoma City, I've performed musical theatre and opera all over the Oklahoma City area. I teach both singing and piano lessons. I teach all styles of singing from classical to contemporary commercial music. With piano, I teach reading to all my students and basic classical style, but I also bring chord charts, and popular styles in as quickly as possible. I believe that reading charts and improvisation are equally important as classical notation. The odds of a student going on to be a classical pianist are much lower than one being more interested in playing with a band or collaborating with other musicians.

Daniel W. has over 7 years of music experience in the Pigeon Forge area.

Daniel W. is proficient in and teaches Keyboard and Piano Lessons, Vocal Lessons .

Degree and Field of Study:

Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with Musical Theatre EmphasisDecember 2021
University of Central Oklahoma

What to expect in my Vocal Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

My lessons are student-driven. In voice lessons, it depends largely on the goals of the singer where the focus is. I teach a mix of contemporary commercial styles, which includes modern musical theatre, pop, rock, country, R&B, etc. and also classical styles including Golden Age Musical Theatre, Art Song and Opera. In a lesson we will spend half the lesson doing vocalization exercises appropriate to whatever repertoire the student is singing, and the other half will be spent learning the desired repertoire.

What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

My lessons are student-driven. What is taught will largely be determined by the goals and interests of the individual students. With beginners I start without a method book and we start with rhythm, the names of the notes and how they correspond to the keyboard, always with a healthy dose of improvisation and play. I do place a strong emphasis on music theory with all of my piano students because it is the foundation for all chord charts, progressions and improvisation. The theory includes practical usage so it isn't just abstract information, it's actually useful to the student so it can be remembered much more easily.

Formal Education:

I began piano lessons at age 6 and studied straight through my first three years of college at Oklahoma City University. At Oklahoma City University I studied Musical Theatre and had three years of voice lessons. When I went back to school at the University of Central Oklahoma I studied voice and vocal pedagogy with Dr. Barbara DeMaio and Collaborative Piano with Dr. Sallie Pollack. I received my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with Musical Theatre Emphasis in December 2021

Performing Experience:

I have performed with Painted Sky Opera in multiple operas, in theater productions across the Oklahoma City Metropolitan area. I've directed several musicals in local community theatre productions including Fiddler on the Roof, Annie and The Music Man. I have served with Painted Sky Opera and Oklahoma City University as a Collaborative Pianist accompanying singers in performances and lessons.

Experience Teaching:

I have taught privately for the last 7 years. I usually maintained a small studio, but the last year I was in Oklahoma I taught at a private music studio where I maintained a studio of around 30 students.
