About Me
Singing has always been like breathing for me-so much so that I annoyed my brother with my unconscious singing while we both did our math homework! As a child, I auditioned and sang with the excellent Indianapolis Children's Choir while also taking private piano lessons. Once I hit high school, I began formal, private voice training as a coloratura soprano and played piano nightly for hours on end. I sang in my university's choir and continued formal training during college, during which I performed Neptune from Holst's "The Planets" as part of a small group of female singers with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. I also sang in my university's opera. After I finished my Masters in Political Philosophy, I taught government, history, and logic to middle and high school students for four years at Ridgeview Classical School. When my first child was born, I decided to stay home. Now I'm thrilled to combine my teaching experience and musical background to help you grow your love for and skill in voice and piano! Expect to get a little silly with vocal technique; you'll be surprised how much your physical body affects the sound of your voice! We might jump and spin to help release sound while also practicing breath support and placement to help you achieve your best sound. I love musical theater and classical pieces, but also worship songs. I believe you learn best when you have some freedom to tackle songs YOU love, so I'll listen carefully to what you desire to sing and play and plan accordingly. I'm excited to meet you soon!

What to expect in my Vocal Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

At your first lesson, I'll want to spend a little time getting to know you and your voice. I'll have you sing a little to ascertain your range, tone, and technique, but I also want to know YOU as a person. I want to hear your desires for our lessons, as well as the kinds of songs YOU love. I believe that we learn best when we are enjoying our work, so I'll aim to incorporate the songs you love. From there, we'll spend lessons warming up (these exercises are fun and wonky!), then working on songs, during which time we'll naturally be able to work on breath support, posture, note placement, inflection, etc. Expect to get a little silly with movement! You'll be amazed just how much your physical body (posture, tension, etc.) affects the sound of your voice. We might twirl, jump, and limber up to help you achieve your best sound!
