Joshua D.

Joshua is a pianist and composer based in Birmingham, AL. He took lessons from age 5 to age 10 at a local conservatory, and from age 18 to age 22 at Samford University, from which he graduated with a bachelor's of music degree in music composition. He has also played in the church for 10+ years, and is fluent in the art of piano improvisation. Joshua began his journey of formal composition in college and has written multiple works for chamber, orchestra, and solo piano. One of his works, S.O.S. Songs of Struggle, written for piano and solo baritone, debuted in Carnegie Hall and The Peabody Institute in 2022 as a part of a musical social justice project entitled Songs of Hope. He has also written works for jazz trio, some of which were debuted in October 2023 at Crosstown Theatre in Memphis, TN. Beyond composing, Joshua is fluent in styles of both classical and jazz, and loves seeing younger kids grow in their love of both styles of music.
