About Me
When I was about 12 years old, my brother and I wanted to start a band. It was about 6th grade-maybe 5th, or 7th-something like that, but we made a couple of songs and also had a band. I wanted to be a drummer, but when I sat down behind the drums, I didn't know what was going on, so my brother took over and I figured out guitar. Kind of fell into it, but as the years went by, me and my brother always played together. My brother taught me drums and I taught him a little on the guitar and he ended up being really, really good. He started teaching me, so we swapped up on the bass, drums, guitar, and as I got older-I picked up a little piano to teach my own kids. I never really knew what scales and modes were. I didn't know all the methods and all that stuff. For a long time, I never knew. Everybody was like "how are you playing that?" I didn't even know what skill was, so as I went, I started wanting to figure out the language of guitar and music. How to read it, how to figure it out. So I met a couple other guys who didn't really know what was going on and I started teaching them. I was teaching myself how to read music scales, listening to demos-picking up on the circle of fifths. Learning about music theory and everything was just kind of was easier to pick up on, as I already knew how to play, it was easier for me to teach myself. Back then, I really didn't know what's going on. It really was all Greek to me. It was a different language when I looked at that scales and modes and tempos. So here we are 30 years later-I'm 44 now, I've been playing since I was about 12. I've been learning music theory and how to read music and how to teach music for about 3 and a half-four years. I always played by ear and then discovered tablature. Many years later I discovered music theory. And the rest is history.
