About Me
My name is Phil. I am a multi-instrumentalist, DJ, and loop artist from Las Vegas, NV. I’ve been teaching drums since 1989, guitar since 2000, DJing since 2008, bass since 2010, and songwriting, production & live looping since 2015. My speciality is using live looping as a teaching aid for guitar, as well as a tool for live performance. For drum students, I like to focus on Scottish drumming rudiments for sticking fundamentals, and simply let the student’s taste in music dictate where we go with the rest of the kit. With beginner and intermediate guitar students, I like to focus on having a well-rounded vocabulary of playing styles, encouraging them to learn multiple genres, and to make their own hybrid styles. With songwriting and recording students, I mostly focus on constructing musical grooves and beat making with inexpensive tools, like GarageBand, Logic, and Korg Gadjets.

Philip B. has over 24 years of music experience in the Las Vegas area.

What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

I mostly focus on constructing musical grooves and beat making with inexpensive tools, like GarageBand, Logic, and Korg Gadjets. I also explore lyric writing exercises that I learned from Tony Smiley.

What to expect in my Drum Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

For drum students, I like to focus on Scottish drumming rudiments for sticking fundamentals, and simply let the student’s taste in music dictate where we go with the rest of the kit. My Favorite book to teach from is Realistic Rock by Carmine Appice.

What to expect in my Guitar Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

With beginner and intermediate guitar students, I like to focus on having a well-rounded vocabulary of playing styles, encouraging them to learn multiple genres, and to make their own hybrid styles. My primary focus is teaching the art of using looping technology to make music for a living. I consult the student on assembling a live looping rig, choice of repertoire, and the fundamentals of executing accurate live loops. In the intermediate and advanced stages, I focus on the process of editing and modifying the pedals used for looping, as well as exploring genres of music outside of student's comfort zone.
