Hello Drummers! I am excited to offer a different approach and perspective to learning this amazing instrument. I believe feel and musical interpretation combined with understanding song structure and the emotion that the song is trying to convey to be at the heart of my teachings. Next comes what sounds and rhythms can help to achieve those goals. I believe a good blend of rudimentary knowledge along with self-expression to be key in becoming a great drummer that bands will want to have in their group dynamic. Learning how to listen and understand what the other instruments and individuals are doing is key to setting the tone for the whole song/band as the drummer. As drummers, we are often translators for the crowd. Our beats and rhythms inform the audience how to interpret the music, how to dance, how to move; how serious or fun the song is to be. My goals as an instructor is to give you the most amount of tools to be able to shine in a variety of situations, to know how to lead a band, and when and where we need to push and pull the music through dynamics, tempo, technicality, and how we emote on the kit. The musical genres and their subsequent affiliations I understand the most are pop, rock, funk, country, alt, indie, hip hop, punk, aAmericana and jazz ballads. I teach everyone from children to adults and do best with beginner and intermediate drummers. Those who have no skills or have hit a wall in their playing.
