About Me

My name is Heidi, and I discovered my love for piano at an early age. I was fortunate to have parents that helped me nurture that talent into what it is today. As a young adult, I aspire to share that passion and love for music and piano with others. I have been playing altogether for about 20 years now and have had the amazing opportunity to perform for at least 10 of those years. Most of my professional education came from my experience at Settlement Music School. I was blessed to have been awarded various scholarships where I was able to more effectively progress in my knowledge and understanding of music and piano performance. Not only did I perform as a soloist, but in chamber music groups as well. I was trained classically, and because of that I dabble in all genres now. Currently, I still do play and perform regularly. In my free time, I love to arrange and compose musical compositions as well. I look forward to getting to know you and share my knowledge and passion for music as we learn together!

What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

Students should expect to be trained in mainly a classical style, at least to start. As students progress, we can explore other styles if they so desire. An assignment book is preferred, as we start things off, we can keep everything organized and students know exactly what to practice. For beginners, we will focus first on teaching them how to understand and read the clefs and where those notes correspond on the piano. For more intermediate learners, at the beginning of lessons, we will go over scales and arpeggios before starting new musical pieces. An essential part of learning music is the art of performing it perfectly. Therefore, we will incorporate periodic performances to enhance the musical experience for the students and encourage them to express themselves through their performances.

Formal Education:

I have a high school diploma and have completed two years of college education from Walden University but never graduated with a degree.

Performing Experience:

All in all I have had at least 10 years of performing experience. Seven of those were in more of a professional setting and included performances and auditions for awards and scholarships in various musical settings. I was fortunate to perform at various locations of Settlement Music School for professional recitals, auditions, chamber music groups, and accompaniments. As a part of more casual opportunities, I have performed at churches, nursing homes, and house concerts.

Experience Teaching:

I have had experience teaching piano lessons for two years. I love my students, and they were children primarily from the age of four years old up until about 13 years old. I have also had experience teaching children in other musical settings as well, including vocal choir and a handbell choir.
