Shirley has always loved music from an early age. She began playing piano at the age of 7 and continued her education by attending high school summer music programs and earning a bachelors degree in music education. Her musical influences include singing in spring opera performances in college and increasing skills in piano pedagogy. Her master's degree in music therapy, and as a music therapy clinician has inspired her to help to inspire others improve their life's goals through the influence of music therapy. Shirley's favorite thing about music is sharing her knowledge as a mentor and advocate for special populations in music therapy, and her favorite thing about teaching music is teaching how music makes us smarter as well as learn to share our music experiences and musical skills with others i.e., participation in recitals, and volunteering to play for others, etc. One of her favorite teaching experiences was entering her piano students into piano competitions for increased socialization in music, and helping them to gain a broader knowledge of skill building in piano study.
