About Me
Hi, my name is Matthew, and I am a Guitarist, Composer, and Multi-Instrumentalist from Nashville, Tennessee. I have been a student of music for over 20 years. My musical influences include Arvo Pärt, Eric Johnson, Plini, MkGee, Bach, Shawn Lane, and Radiohead, I also enjoy exploring sacred minimalism, ambient textures, and improvisation. My teaching style can best be described as holistic and student-focused, blending structured technique with creative exploration. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that music is not just about playing the right notes—it’s about finding your own voice and connection to sound. In my lessons, you can expect to learn strong technical foundations, improvisation skills, composition, and how to apply theory to real-world playing. I like to tell my students that music is a language—once you learn to "speak" it fluently, you can create freely. My favorite thing about teaching is watching students have breakthrough moments where everything clicks, and they gain confidence in their playing. My favorite performance was an intimate solo guitar concert where I performed my own compositions alongside works by Bach and Villa-Lobos—blending classical tradition with personal storytelling through music. My students love that I adapt lessons to their personal goals, making learning both structured and inspiring. I primarily teach electric and classical guitar, but I can also teach bass guitar, banjo, Ukulele, composition, and music theory. My approach as a teacher is to meet students where they are, guide them with structured learning, and inspire them to think creatively with their music. Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon!
