Howdy, my name is Felicia, and I’m an Actor and Teaching Artist! I graduated from Columbia College Chicago for a BA in Musical Theatre with an emphasis in education and dance. Studying at CCC has given me insight into teaching to children through a lens of queer inclusion and anti-racism. I would describe my pedagogy as playful, disciplined, and malleable. I’ve worked with kids ages 7-21 in private voice lessons both in-person and on Zoom, as well as an instructor in high school level Musical Audition and Shakespeare workshops with an average of 50+ students at a time. I am currently a teaching artist at Stages Chicago and teach theater classes to students ages 3-13 years old as well as babies in Mommy and Me classes. On average I have 10-25 students per class. We also put on full scale musicals such as our last production Frozen Jr at the Vittum Theater, and summer day camps based on Broadway Musicals. I love love love teaching adults as well! Voice lessons are about building confidence, and absolutely anyone can learn to sing! Being from South Texas, I used my own music and theater education as an outlet against suffering mental health, coping with a toxic home life, and unknowingly struggling with undiagnosed ADHD. I understand exactly how life saving having a creative outlet that is dependable and a safe space is for a child, as well as having an empathetic teacher who cares about their student’s as, first, a human with feelings and, second, a talented individual. I feel that being a young, Hispanic woman gives me a fresh and colorful prospective as I can still largely relate to my students which helps build a foundation of trust that will support them throughout our lessons to feel comfortable to “fail forward” and develop a stronger sense of self confidence. In my spare time I love to paint with acrylics on canvas, watch horror movies, attend my friend’s theater plays, and find new places to eat in the city with my partner.
Felicia H. has over 6 years of music experience in the Chicago area.

What to expect in my Vocal Lessons
A warm and non judgmental space to start "falling forward" and making music! I love to laugh and keeping a positive attitude while we work is always helpful because singing can be scary. I will bring a personalized focus to your goals as well is proper voice technique that you can take home and practice. My goal is always to listen to your unique wishes for our lessons, give you as much knowledge as I can that you can immediately implement, and grow your confidence by achieving our goal by the end of our lesson.
Formal Education:
Private Education:
I took private voice lessons starting when I was 15! I had a wonderful teacher who taught me Opera and Classical technique through middle school and high school. In college, I had voice teachers teach me musical theater, pop, R&B, and live performance technique.
Performing Experience:
I started in my school choir, I took competition for Choir and Theater very seriously in school and I became 2nd Chair in TMEA for 1st Soprano my sophomore year of high school. I also earned gold state metals for Individual Performance singing opera, and acting in One Act Play. In college I performed in three mainstage shows: 2021 New Student Showcase, Head Over Heels, and Hamlet. I was also a member of the Musical Theater Ensemble. Since graduating, I have booked VANYA AND SONYA AND MASHA AND SPIKE (Dunes Summer Theater), FRACTURED FAIRY TALES (GreatWorks Theater), MACBETH (Stone Soup Shakespeare), HAIRSPRAY, MIDSOMMER NIGHTS DREAM, and THE LITTLE MERMAID (Festival 56) and CABARET (Essential Invisible). I am also a regular music performer in the Chicago cabaret series CHISME, which features Queer and Latine artists.
Experience Teaching:
I have 6 years of teaching private voice lessons! I started in 2020 and was mostly over Zoom, but I was able to find my pedagogy and gradually started teaching my college peers in person and now teach kids as young as 7 to adults! I also have experience teaching theater classes, Shakespeare workshops, Musical Theater Audition workshops, and building my own curriculum for a class and for private individual lessons.
