Hi, my name is Kristin and I am a songbird from Norman, Oklahoma. I have been a student of music as far back as I can remember. My musical influences include Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell, and Diana Damrau, and I also enjoy a bird call here and there. My teaching style can best be described as technical vocal training and stylistic coaching. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I believe anyone can learn to sing and nobody is truly tone deaf. In my lessons, you can expect to learn proper breathing techniques to support your instrument, with a focus on posture and correct placement of tongue and jaw while learning to control your instrument. I like to tell my students the truth so they can know what to do to improve their musical expression and learn to use their instrument properly. My favorite thing about teaching is getting to know different people and learning how their instrument works for them and helping them to achieve full potentiial with as a vocal performer. My favorite performance was the impromptu performance of "I Got Rhythm" at a party with a bunch of music majors and colleagues. My students love that I speak to them like a person who I have known forever and make them feel comfortable when bearing it all as they belt out their favorite tune or assignment I have given them to help improve their musical skills. I primarily teach voice but I can also teach beginning piano and theory. My approach as a teacher is to help you become the best singer and musician you can be.
