Caryn is an accomplished musician who loves to play various instruments in many different performance situations. She has been a member of percussion ensembles, concert bands, wind ensembles, marching bands, drum corps, jazz ensembles, jazz combos, pep bands, choirs, rock bands and orchestras all over NY & NJ, and has also drummed professionally in productions of Rocky Horror, Blood Brothers, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, Godspell and Once Upon a Mattress. She was a Percussion Major and holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from The College of New Jersey (Formerly Trenton State) and a Masters Degree in Music Performance from Five Towns College. She has had the opportunity to play with and perform under the baton of a number of acclaimed artists (X-mas show live on NY radio with Bernard Pretty Purdie, sang with Don Randi of The Wrecking Crew, drummed with Princeton-area saxophonist Richie Cole, and principle percussionist under the baton of New Jersey Symphony Orchestra's own late Martin Sklar to name a few). In August 2011 she appeared as a featured clinician for the Drum Summit, hosted by Dom Famularo; sponsored by Sam Ash, which featured some of the world's leading Drum Set artists. She has released 8 professionally recorded rock albums of original material independently and is always writing new music, be it for her rock band or arrangements of music for percussion (she debuted her arrangement of "She's Not There" by The Zombies with the TCNJ Percussion Ensemble at their Spring 2008 performance, and also performed two works she helped arrange at her college senior recital: an arrangement of Alexanders Ragtime Band for Field Drum and Mellophone and an arrangement of & Love Song, originally written by The Cure, for Vibraphone, Drum Set and Guitar). Her music has been featured on college radio, a number of different internet radio stations, as well as on a compilation CD put out by Kid Antrim Music (2001). She has been teaching private music lessons since she was 12 and knew that she wanted to be a professional musician since Pre-K. Some of her music is currently available on CDBaby and Itunes. In addition to teaching in students' homes and at her own studios in Medford, NY and Fanwood, NJ, Caryn also currently teaches various instruments at two music schools in Central NJ and two in Long Island; regularly performs with the NJWA Concert Band; Jazz Band, and with the 2012 NY State Champion Golden Eagles Drum & Bugle Corp. She is also a representative to Mallet Records (headed by Lionel Hamptons vibraphone protégée; Jason Malletman Taylor), a Drum Summit Team Member; Featured Clinician. Caryn hosted an hour-long radio program, Caryns Rock N Rant Radio, from 2 in which she performed with and interviewed some of NYs best musicians. She now has her own TV show on Comcast Cable's Ch. 20 in Long Island called Caryn's Music Mania, which is on every Monday night at 11:30 PM.
