I have 24 years of experience as a drummer/percussionist. During those 24 years, I have played in many bands that include original and cover music. I am proficient in most genres of music including rock, blues, country, metal, pop, dance, latin, reggae, and big band. One of my highlights as a musician was to go on tour with an original/cover band.
Within the last four years, I moved from New York to Maryland. While in New York, I had the pleasure to teach drums and percussion to students at various levels of experience from beginner to intermediate. It gives me a great feeling to be able to share my gift and expand the musical horizons of others. My curriculum is dependent on the talent level of my students. My aim is not only to teach the logistics of playing drums/percussion, but also how to tune their instruments as I feel it important to properly accentuate the music they are playing.

Michael Vi. has over 24 years of music experience in the Millersville area.
Michael Vi. is proficient in and teaches Drum Lessons .Formal Education:
I started playing drums and percussion when I was in elementary school. I learned how to read music and played in band, orchestra and the chorus. I played throughout high school.
Private Education:
I am self-taught on the drum set. I spent many hours using my rudimentary training from school and applying it to the drum set. I also learned by watching other drummers and seeking their advice on how I could improve on my own talents. In addition, I learned different styles by putting on headphones and playing along with various artists that encompassed a wide range of genres.
Performing Experience:
I joined my first band as a junior in high school. It was a cover band and we played at parties, battles of the bands and school oriented events. I later joined an all original band where I was the lead singer/drummer. We played a type of alternative/jazz/rock style. This is where I participated in the creation of music and lyrics as well as honing my skills as a drummer playing a 9-piece kit (That lasted about 10 years). After that band, I played in a punk/grunge rock band. This was more of an energetic type band (That lasted 5 years). I later joined an original/cover band, with which I went on tour; it was a 21-day, 15 gig tour where the members of the band had only played twice before going out. Needless to say that this was the most challenging project and there was an instant chemistry between all of us to carry the tour off. I am still in that band and we've been playing together for the last 5 years.
Experience Teaching:
In New York, I had the pleasure of teaching numerous people at different age ranges and talent levels. I am a patient and fun teacher that realizes that it takes time and patience to successfully teach all students. I make it a point that my students practice what I teach them in their off time. If they do not practice and I am aware, they will not receive further lessons as it is a waste of my time and their money.
I recently started to look for teaching jobs since I moved to Maryland and am teaching an older gentleman who used to play a lot, but hadn't practiced in a while. I am teaching him how to keep steady tempo as well as the different notes and time signatures he might encounter.
