Matt (Drummer/Composer-USA)
Matt is a musician dedicated to awakening a sense of the new while holding down a rich tradition of groove and spirit. His development started in Chicago at the age of 4, when he took up cello, classical piano, and percussion on a "drum set" of plastic paint buckets. By age seven, Matt knew that drums were the instrument he would remain connected to for life. Eventually his efforts brought him to the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, FL, where he received a full scholarship; and last year, to the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland.
His broad, joyfully open and inquisitive spirit continues to expand his vision beyond geographic and genre boundaries, enhancing his versatility and enabling him to convey his passion to audiences the world over.

Matt Car. is proficient in and teaches Drum Lessons .Formal Education:
• Thelonious Monk institute/Gallery 37 afterschool program 2008
• Francis W. Parker high school jazz ensemble 2004-2007
• University Of Miami Frost School Of Music 2008-2012, Presidential Scholarship. BFA in Jazz drumset performance.
Private Education:
• Studied with Lenny Marsh(at Old Town School Of Folk Music) from 1997-2002 (Worked on fundamental grooves, technique, and reading)
• Frank Donaldson from 2002-2003 (Reading, independence, and stick technique)
• Paul Wertico from 2003-2004 (independence, creative improvisational techniques)
• Joel Spencer from 2006-2008 (Advanced stickings and independence, stick technique, solo development, and chart reading)
• Jason Furman 2008-2009 (Advanced stickings, chart reading, and drum transcription)
• Steve Rucker 2009-present (brushes, world grooves, chart interpretation, odd times, rhythmic displacement, transcription, rudiments, and four way coordination)
Performing Experience:
• Opening concerts in Millennium park for many established Chicago and national jazz musicians.
• Has performed with Aoife O'donovan, Charlie Haden, Bobby Broom, Dennis Carroll, Ira Sullivan, Noah Preminger, Dave Miller, Clark Sommers, Ryan Cohan, and Geof Bradfield.
• Various performances, recording sessions, and standing weekly gigs around Chicago and Miami (Clubs, Bars, Public Spaces)
• Studied, recorded, performed, and was featured on the national jazz radio station in Helsinki, Finland. Other performances in London, Berlin, and Dublin.
• West Coast tour with Eleven Dollar Bills.(Blues/Rock)

Festivals and Summer Programs:
• Birch Creek summer Music Camp (Top combo) (2004)
• Gallery 37 summer apprenticeship under the direction of professor Ron Carter(2004-2007)
• Performed at the Chicago Jazz Festival with Charlie Haden (2006)
• Featured on the 2011 and 2012 Jazz Cruise with the Emmet Cohen Trio alongside the Jeff Hamilton Trio, Lewis Nash Trio, and Randy Brecker Quintet.
