I teach healthy vocal technique that can be applied to a wide variety of vocal styles. I am classically trained with a background in art song and opera and am also experienced in teaching modern musical theatre. I am happy to help you prepare audition repertoire for a school or community theatre production, find and work on a solo to sing in a worship service, put together a college audition package, or to just see where your voice takes you.
I received my Masters in Music in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College. I have been teaching voice lessons for nine years. I have a background in piano as well as voice and can be seen in the Cathedral Choir of St. John as well as professional appearances around the city.
I work with teenagers and adults of all levels of training, from true beginners learning to match pitch and read music to pre-professionals auditioning for advanced degrees. You are never too old to start voice lessons! As part of lessons you will also learn basic musicianship, sight-singing, theory, music reading, and a bit of music history here and there.
I also teach children, but I usually approach lessons for children under 11 as general music lessons rather than lessons focused on the voice; we explore learning how to read music, basic music history, theory, sight singing and ear training, musicianship, basic vocal technique, and other related topics. Exceptions are made for preparing for auditions or coaching a child cast in a show. My goal is to encourage general well-rounded musicianship in children so that when the student is ready to start more focused work on his/her voice s/he has a strong musical foundation.
My focus is to help you find your own unique voice in your preferred style while maintaining technique that will allow you to sing healthily and without injury.
