About Me

I am first and foremost a classical pianist; however, I have played many styles of music and am comfortable teaching rock, blues, jazz, gospel, and R&B styles. I will also combine styles and in fact recommend that all students of modern styles also study classical piano. I am grounded in the Matthay school of relaxation technique with additional work in Alexander technique, and currently use Seymour Fink’s Mastering Piano Technique as a finishing text. Much of my playing philosophy concerns key velocity, escapement awareness, and careful understanding of suppleness in wrist, shoulder, and elbow – I modify these concepts slightly when teaching at an electronic keyboard; but, always emphasize relaxation.

William A- has over 16 years of music experience in the Canton area.
