I have been playing drums since I was 11. I first started with the snare drum at the start of 5th grade. I then moved on to the drum set. I played in the high school marching band. I took lessons for 3 years at UMKC Conservatory of Music and have been a professional working musician for over 25 years since. I have traveled all over the continental US and to other countries such as Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and Guantanamo Bay Cuba. I played in a variety pop cover bands that were booked 8-15 weeks at a time on Royal Carribean Cruise lines from 1996-1998. I peformed mostly in casinos from 1995-2005. Currently, I play in a popular show-dance cover band called Cherry Bomb in Kansas City, Missouri. I also play in two rock bands when Cherry Bomb isn't performing. I play most weekends and some weeknights throughout the year. I also teach drum lessons to 4 students in the Kansas City area and would like to teach a few more. Let's get started!
Frank De has over 35 years of music experience in the Blue Springs area.
Frank De is proficient in and teaches .Formal Education:
Grandview Sr. High School, Grandview MO. graduated in 1980.
Longview Community College, Lee's Summit MO. Associates degree, 1983.
Avila University, Kansas City MO. 1983-84.
Private Education:
I took drum lessons at UMKC Conservatory of Music, 1978-80.
Performing Experience:
25+ years as a working musician, primarily full time, 2-7 nights a week, playing hundreds of weeks, 6 nights a week in casinos. Also performed on cruise ships, in hotel night clubs, free standing night clubs, school auditoriums, indoor and outdoor theatres, concert halls and major and not so major event centers as well as fairs and festivals in Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas and Mississippi. I played gigs in the dumpiest roadhouses to the fanciest hotels and nightclubs, many times in the same week. Performed for more than 50 wedding receptions, over 50 corporate events, charitable events, birthday parties, anniversaries, and a divorce party in the past 5 years.
I've been in only two primary bands the past 15 years. One band from 1996-2005 and the current band I'm in, from 2005. I play in 2 other bands when I'm not performing in the main band I'm in.
Experience Teaching:
The past 4 years, 5 students in all, all beginner level. I like to keep drum lessons fun and try to teach without making the lesson seem like work or get boring. Most of the time I believe I have been successful in achieving that, sometimes it just doesn't happen for whatever reason but that's like most anything in life. I like to teach rudiments, some reading drum music, basic rhythm patterns, proper technique and teach them simple drum beats to actual rock or pop songs. When the student has learned basic fundamentals and rhythm patterns, I then let them choose a song to learn that is within their capabilities.
