I have a multi-faceted musical background. I studied classical and jazz piano, while also having composed instrumental pieces and musicals. I teach a variety of instruments, focusing mainly on piano, voice, and guitar. After completing my music major at Loyola University, I returned to graduate school 15 years later to pursue a teaching license and master's degree. Having taught over a hundred students privately, and hundreds in more in schools, I have cultivated that ability to bring out the musical talents of my students. My mission is to develop the talents within my students to their fullest potential. My wide range of experiences include, performing with students in talent shows, playing gigs with students, coaching soloists, directing choirs, writing musicals and contemporary piano, hosting students concerts, performing in restaurants, nursing homes, and libraries. However, as a private instructor I also cultivate relationships with students, some lasting over ten years. One of my students from early on is now a music instructor himself. I strive to bring out the best in students and importantly, enjoy the process of learning.

What to expect in my Vocal Lessons
Beginners can expect a step-by-step approach to singing. I highly recommend 60 minute sessions to make sure the majority of the lesson is used singing with a warmed up voice. I have a set of 30 singing principals that I walk students through in a varied order and pace. I am a very reactive instructor, aiming to provide feedback and guidance towards the sound the student is making. Students will learn how to identify and develop vocal direction and placement, diaphragm support, resonators, and proper posture and breathing technique. The first lesson explains the triangle of breath, diction, and support. As long as song selections contain vocal content and challenge, I am capable of playing any song in any key that fits the voices of the student.
What to expect in my Guitar Lessons
Students should expect to learn guitar from a theory focused approach. Many self-taught guitar players learn by ear and know how to play along to a track. This approach can be fulfilling and many get by on this level of knowledge, but true creativity is rooted in a deep understanding of how music works. My methods are very systematic and based on my pedagogical background, using visual aids, multi-modal learning, and theory work. At the same time, I am also very happy to teach someone function guitar with open chords and a capo and focus more on vocal development, learning how to sing along with their instrument.
What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
My background in piano has enough depth to personalize the learning material toward the students interests. I have taught students to play piano sonata's and jazz improvisation. I can also help students play pop music, chord charts, or write their own music. I use a wide selection from the Faber library, believing that theory, technique, and performance books are essential to learn with the main lesson book. I can also teach students to play and sing. For those on the classical track, we deep dive into the technical aspects of playing, including hand shape, articulation, wrist and elbow motion, rotations, dynamics, and style. Creativity and rigor can thrive in a learning environment.
