Dathan D
Drum Lessons
Home or Studio
12 Years
My name is Dathan, professional drummer from Chicago, IL and Springfield, MO, now residing in Clearwater, FL. I have taught drum set and snare drum sight-reading skills to students for the past 10 years. I have my own developmental curriculum that I created solely based on each students progression through the lessons. What I mean is that as we go through each lesson, if the student is having a hard time acquiring the lesson and having any issues at all, I will address those concerns through the lesson to either create a slower more obtainable experience for the student or if they are accomplishing great things we can speed through each lesson and get to the drum set quicker. Every student has the ability to perform at a professional level and my goal is to get them there, no matter what! I love teaching so much that I constantly am thinking on how to improve each lesson and make the most out of it for the student. I hope to talk to you soon or see you in the Drum Dojo! :)
Dathan D has over 12 years of music experience in the Clearwater area.
Dathan D is proficient in and teaches Drum Lessons .Formal Education:
Graduated from Branson High School in 2002. Marching, Jazz and Concert snare drum and drum set. Winner of many drum set solo awards at various competitions and I achieved the Louie Armstrong Award on drum set from my High School Band Director at graduation.
Private Education:
Private lessons taken from a tenured teacher who was local in my home town of Branson, MO. He taught me to read and write drum set music and how to sight read sheet music and involve theory within any new sheet of music to create better song writing skills and soloing around the kit better when the song(s) call for it.
Performing Experience:
Recorded on 3 solo band album projects (Full-Length) from 1999-2004 with independent local artists in my hometown of Branson, MO. Recorded and Toured with Art-rock progressive group called Technicolour Stallion from Chicago, IL from 2005-2008. Toured with Semi-Pro Chicago based rock group, Oh My God, from 2008-2009. Drum promo and live appearances with various artists on youtube, and just recently performed and left Eighties Rewind, an 80's cover band from Branson, MO for 2 years. This group performed for several weddings, local bars and clubs, special events, including local charity functions in the surrounding area.
Experience Teaching:
Over 10 years professional teaching to students ranging all ages. Teaching at all levels, either beginner student, intermediate, or advanced. Wrote original charts for instruction, or taught students out of the Ted Reed Book Of Syncopation and Gary Chester's The New Breed. Both books I credit a lot of my teaching curriculum to because they gauge a better teaching experience to the student for the ones who get a little done each lesson or a lot, depending on the experience level. Also, both books bring a sense of confidence to the student and give them the hope that they can get the most out of the lesson. Every student retains the information at a different pace and learning styles are all different.
