Ryan is a tubist originally from upstate New York now residing in Charlotte, North Carolina. He currently is a music educator at Thomasboro Academy in West Charlotte where he teaches students general music, band and chorus grades k-8. Ryan previously worked for Herkimer BOCES teaching students k-12 with special needs. He also held a two year position at The University of Akron band department as a band graduate assistant where he rehearsed and conducted many of the universities ensembles.
Ryan began studying tuba in fourth grade where he developed his love of music. He continued performing throughout high school playing in the concert and symphonic bands, and playing trombone in the jazz band. He received his bachelor’s degree in music education with a concentration in special music education from the Crane School of Music at the State University of New York at Potsdam where he studied under Dr. Charles Guy and his masters degree in tuba performance from The University of Akron where he studied under Professor Tucker Jolly. During his musical career he has had the opportunity to play in master classes for renowned tubists Velvet Brown, and Timothy Buzbee, as well as perform at a student recital at the 2011 North East Regional Tuba and Euphonium Conference. He actively performs in a variety of ensembles and has previously performed in a multitude of settings from chamber music to orchestral pieces. Ryan is an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma.
