Hello! My name is Zach, and I am a 27-year-old musician and law student at the University of Texas. I began learning classical guitar, music theory, and sheet music reading at the age of 7. Five years later, at the age of 12, I secured an apprenticeship under famed blues guitarist, W.C. Clark. W.C. is regarded as the "Godfather of Austin Blues." His prior apprentices include Charlie and Will Sexton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. I simultaneously developed both my classical abilities, and lead-electric blues guitar abilities. My two instructors taught their respective styles from opposite ends of the spectrum. My classical teacher taught through musical notation (sheet music), and W.C. taught through use of "the ear." Under these two forms of education, I developed very strong knowledge of both the guitar, and music theory. I teach my students in a manner similar to my education-equal parts classical music theory, and "the ear." (even the most novice musicians can tell when something "doesn't sound good"). My teaching style has been successful with my students, and my students tend to develop their understanding of the guitar and music quicker than what is typical. My style of play is similar to that of Jimi Hendrix/Stevie Ray Vaughan (i.e., playing both rhythm and lead), and that is how I teach my students---at a reasonable learning curve, of course. I teach both standard guitar, as well as slide guitar (including lap-steel). I also currently record and produce musicians, and am well versed in music production and recording.
