Robert is an accomplished musician specializing in guitar and pedal steel guitar. His favorite styles of music are the Rock, Country and Blues genres. In addition to being a talented guitarist, Robert is an exceptional teacher. He has been successful with advancing students from a beginner level to songwriter and/or band member status in a relatively short amount of time.
One of his primary goals as a teacher is to give the student a road map to the guitar so they can write their own songs and be able to step in to any musical situation and play music with others, speaking the language of music. He does this by teaching his students the Nashville Number System and giving them a solid foundation of music theory based on the Diatonic Scales and Circle of Fifths.
Robert’s formal education is in Graphic Design and Interactive Media. He is able to use a combination of his skills to aide students in their learning. He designs his own lesson plans, creates lesson videos for his students as well as original backing tracks for at-home practice. Robert has over 35 years experience playing music live throughout the United States and Europe and enjoys performing just as much as teaching.
In addition, he co-developed and patented the Trem Belly Bar, a tremolo system specifically made for the Fender Stratocaster guitar. Robert co-owns Arlington Family Music with his wife, Susan.
Robert Lo has over 44 years of music experience in the Arlington area.
Robert Lo is proficient in and teaches Guitar Lessons .Formal Education:
My formal education is in Graphic Design and Inter-Active Media. A.S. and Certified in After Effects, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, ProTools. I also have an electronics and mechanical background (USAF).
Private Education:
I learned Theory while In Germany for 8 years from the Jazz community and had played Blues and Metal prior to that. I began teaching after the owner of the Gainesville Guitar Academy heard me play and offered me a teaching job (Gainesville Fl). I have based my lessons on the Guitar Grimiore series as well as personal experience.
Performing Experience:
I have played over 5,000 shows as a sideman, Lead Guitar and Pedal Steel as well as a Front Man/ Lead vocalist/Lead Guitarist. Toured Europe and the East Coast
Experience Teaching:
I began teaching in my home in '95 and teaching institutionally in the Fall of 2000. I am comfortable with around 50 students but because of the time I have to invest in making custom teaching materials for each student that would be about my maximum. I make backing tracks, videos and book quality pages, in fact each student builds a book from materials that I provide (an example of these pages is provided on my recruiting/audition site) based on their specific needs and goals.
