About Me
Oakland's own rising drummer/composer Ryan continues his life fascination with music that's led him to study with Scott Amendola, Simon Lott & William Woodley. With his forward-thinking approach powering what may be an exciting new style of drumming, there's a bright future in store for Ryan as he continues to make his mark. Ryan has been playing drums since age 10. Ever since seeing the Rolling Stones in concert at the young age of 6, Ryan has felt the need to dance to the beat of a drum. The Rolling Stones (Charlie Watts) experience touched Ryan's soul and gave him the desire he needed to begin his life on drums. Ryan has recorded/played with Mike Sopko, Thomas Pridgen (The Mars Volta), Maggie Koerner, Michael James Booker, Sam Johnson Band, Scott Barkan, Delphi Freeman, Anna Borja, Joshua Smith (Birth) & many more. The new release “Just Like We Used To” with his band BroJazz will be available worldwide May 3rd 2016. BroJazz features Ryan on drums, Ben Wallace-Ailsworth on bass and world renowned saxophonist Joshua Smith (Birth). Oz Fritz describes BroJazz as “a shapeshifting experiment in postmodern jazz that can change course from a heavy, industrial, noisy, trance groove to soft, light, sweet, delicate, waterfall melodies in the blink of an eye; spin your sensibility 180 degrees then drop you off back home with lyrical tenderness and a wink and a smile.” Just recently his project BookerDuo finished a new self titled EP that was released on November 3rd, 2015 and is available on all major digital distribution sites. The EP features Grammy Award-Winning drummer Thomas Pridgen & Mike Sopko on guitar. Their self tilted EP marks the second release from the band. Together Booker andfuse original compositions and explorative improvisations that will keep listeners wanting more. Ryan is proficient in jazz, rock, funk, Latin, hip-hop, and many more styles. Ryan has toured all over the country.

Ryan L has over 12 years of music experience in the San Leandro area.

    Ryan L.

I couldn't speak more highly of Ryan L., his professionalism and his consistency as both a teacher and musician make him a pleasure to work with and an incredible resource for anybody wishing to learn more about music in the areas of his expertise. He is versatile, creative, and focused, and a deep well of information about drumming styles. In terms of his character, Ryan is always accountable, a great communicator, and an honest, hard-working, and modest person, making him a very apt conveyor of his chosen medium of drumming. His respect for and devotion to music is unparalleled and he would be a great choice to study with for anyone looking to further their own musical journey. Joshua Smith wrote on Mon, 22 Feb 2016
