I enjoy teaching music and working with students and believe that learning to read music will enable the student to play every style of music for their enjoyment and with other musicians and enjoy music as much as I have. I try to put myself in the student's place and think as he does and help him understand music and perform it. I listen to the music which the student has been practicing. Then, I guide him to make corrections and enhancements. I use positive reinforcement to strengthen those parts of the performance which are correct and suggest, explain and demonstrate correct concepts to remedy the part that needs improvement. Then, after hearing the piece again, decide whether to review that part of the assignment or move on. Playing duets with the student is often done to prepare him for ensemble performance and to establish the rhythmic and dynamic feel of the selection.

B.S. and M.S. in Music Education degrees from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Additional graduate study at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Private Education:
I began piano lessons in 2nd grade and continued piano and organ lessons through college and beyond with many private teachers.
Performing Experience:
I presently play the organ in two churches every week and have been a church organist for 70 years. I've accompanied school choirs, played various instruments in band and orchestra, played with country and swing bands, played organ for roller skating rinks, played piano and organ for dinner and dance music, am playing organ at a funeral home and accompany a Shriners men's chorus at concerts and parades.

I have taught public school music for 30 years primarily in elementary band. I've taught private piano and organ lessons for 57 years.
