All through high school, I was active in the music department. I played at piano and violin, but vocal performance was my love. I taught some students, preparing them for competitions and my students always did better than I did. I continued to teach after graduation and took every music class available at Highline Community College.
Alas, I could find no way to support myself just teaching music.
My first job was as a makeup artist and hair designer at a very posh and fashion forward Salon in Burien, WA called the London House. I had high energy and was outgoing and detail-oriented. I had to quickly learn and master new concepts and skills. I eventually received my Associate of Arts in music and in that same year bought my own Salon (Here and Now Hair Design in SeaTac, WA); I managed 3 to 5 other stylist and nail artists. After a few years (and an auto accident that rendered me unable to stand with my hands raised) I returned to College, obtained my degree in psychology. I found work as a Chemical Dependency Counselor for the State of Washington and later as a Psychotherapist helping Federal offenders work their way from prison to the halfway house and from the halfway house back to the community. After several years, I decided to stay home for a while.
In 2012, I came across a Sephora store and fell in love with retail and fashion all over again. For the last four years, I have been supplying superior customer service and education at the Sephora inside JC Penney's in Olympia, WA.
