About Me
I am a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and University of the Arts graduate. I got my degree in Music Composition with a minor in Philosophy/Religion. Having studied guitar and piano as my main instruments for many years now, I feel that, combined with my studies in composition, recording, mixing, and mastering, I have come to a very well rounded perspective of music. I take in all of the knowledge I have gained in all areas to influence and inform whatever role I happen to be filling at that particular moment. Whether I am learning a new jazz tune on guitar, learning a classical prelude on piano, arranging and recording a pop song, or working on and recording my own compositions, I take everything I have learned as a helpful voice to guide me through any musical endeavor. This leads me to producing work with depth and maturity, and arms me well as a teacher with a wholesome perspective on my art. My studies in Philosophy and Religion as well certainly aid me in further understanding my art, but they also have helped me in crafting my skill as a teacher immensely. Engaging in a tradition that focuses on the understanding of the mind and its relationship to the world around it has lead me to putting a lot of thought into how I would go about relaying what can sometimes be very confusing concepts in music. I am confident that I can guide most toward a very fulfilling relationship study with music.   I started teaching at The University of the Arts while I was still attending. I tutored in all core music classes like Music Theory, Piano Class, Ear Training, Guitar, and I also tutored in several technology-related classes like Protools, Logic Pro X, Sibelius, and general music production. Those students were my peers at the time, so ages 18-22. Once I felt more confident in my abilities as a teacher, I started to pursue finding students outside of the school to teach privately, and I have enjoyed teaching students from ages 10-22 in Piano and Guitar.   I specialize in a handful of different aspects of music. I can teach Music Composition/Theory, Music Production, Ear Training, Jazz Guitar, and Jazz or Classical Piano. I can teach any age and any skill level, but I really thrive as a teacher when working with someone who already has some experience under their belt and wants to get to the next level of musicianship.   I look forward to meeting you, and helping you pursue a fulfilling musical life!

Review:

Not just scales - a true musician!

Rob is an excellent musician. But if you only want someone to teach you scales, he may not be the best fit. Rob's education and experience in recording and live performance means he will develop and round out your skills. He will help you think about what would sound good live, or how to prepare to record, or even how to record. It depends on what you're going for. His knowledge of composition can also translate to why you are playing a particular note or chord. This helps with songwriting if that's something you're interested in. Candidly, I bet Rob would be willing to teach someone scales if that's all they want. But I would recommend Rob if you want to grow into a true musician rather than just an instrument player.
