Began Lessons at age 8. Was in High school choral music program. -began playing professionally while in HS. -in college pursued Music Education degree. In College, was Music Director in various churches '75-'83; -created and supervised a Private Lesson Teaching Academy in '00. -left in '06 to pursue higher education. -teach in home studio and play professionally in the Richmond, Virginia area. -accompanist in large church with a contemporary worship format.

What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
1-recognizing rhythmic groups containing multiple note values; 2-Begin to play entry level compositions by the "composers" of note (not arrangements) 3-Know keys, key signatures, and scales, both major and minor. 4-Theory: intervals, triads, seventh chords. Begin to explore simple improvisation.
What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
1) finger posture; dropping on key to make sound as opposed to just pressing. 2) basic rhythm groupings; note names; 3) playing simple tunes using either a) middle “C" approach; b)standard "C" position c) black key approach (using black keys to find white keys d) multi key approach Try to determine the goal(s) the student may have and provide the skill level to obtain that goal
What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
Musical Development through piano is divided into 3 general levels and 8 sub-levels: 1-Elementary-Includes Early Elementary, Elementary, and Late Elementary. 2-Intermediate-Early Intermediate, Intermediate, and Late Intermediate. 3-Advanced-Early Advanced and Advanced Lessons are designed teach music through the piano. This is more comprehensive approach and provides the tools to go in any musical direction that interests them.
What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
1) Begin to play standard grade compositions; 2) Know and explore chord/harmonic progressions; 3) Recognize compositional forms. 4)Set long term music goals and decide on a strategy to achieve them.
Formal Education:
High School; College; some post graduate work
Private Education:
Took private lessons age 8-12 and throughout my 20s.
Performing Experience:
Play professionally; solo piano; variety of groups-R & B; big band; "general business" (private affairs-weddings; parties; etc) Currently accompanist in large church w/ contemporary worship format.
Experience Teaching:
25+ years. I have students who have gone on to careers in music; play in their respective jazz bands in high/middle schools.
