14 Years
Hi there! I'm a music loving, guitar pluckin', lyric beltin' 24 year old enjoying life as a supply chain analyst and guitar teacher in Jacksonville Beach. I was born and raised just outside of DC. I moved here mid 2016 to be near friends, family and the beach. I love this town and its music. I have been through phases of obsessively learning and playing everything from 60's peace rock to the rough grunge from the seattle scene of the early 1990s. I'm also a big fan of solo songwriter/acoustic music. I hope to have a chance to explore your musical interests with you and propel you toward achieving a skill level and sound you're excited about.
Joey L has over 14 years of music experience in the Jacksonville area.
Joey L is proficient in and teaches Guitar Lessons, Song Writing Lessons .Formal Education:
Undergraduate Degree in Finance/Economics - Virginia Tech (Class of 2014)
Private Education:
I took lessons for about 6 months from a formal teacher -- but then decided to continue the journey on my own. He was a phenomenal musician -- but had his own objectives for me. I became frustrated because I wasn't able to steer the lessons in the directions I wanted to go. That's something I keep in mind when working with my students. No two musicians are the same. My goal is to help you find your love for music and continually reach new levels in directions you want to go whether it be in songwriting, performing, singing/playing, or instrumental guitar playing. Maybe we work together for a few months to a year, and then you decide that the rest of your journey can be explored on your own. That's fine with me -- as it was the path I took. Alternatively, maybe we have an absolute blast together and decide to keep working together for the long haul -- that is also acceptable. It's all about you and what you want -- my goal is to help you have a blast and keep getting better at the things you want to get better at.
Performing Experience:
I've been in several bands, playing venues from high schools to the 930 Club in DC. Playing, learning, performing is all a part of the learning process. Some may choose to learn to play for themselves, and others may choose to learn with the intention to seek a career in music. Every student's learning experience will be different and consistently adjusted based on what it is they decide they like and want to achieve.
Experience Teaching:
I taught guitar lessons to siblings of friends during my high school years with a regular weekly schedule, and stopped teaching in college (Virginia Tech) to focus on my studies. I had no idea how fun teaching guitar could be. Often when a lesson is over, I can't believe the time has already passed. Playing, learning, listening to, and teaching music is just something I love to do.

Instructor Reference
I previously worked with Joseph in a professional firm. He was always very engaged in and tasks or projects we worked on and completed work wtih high quality results. Joeseph worked diligently to make sure results were as expected. He was quick to understand new work tasks or responsibilities given to him. He above all showed great respect to clients and conducted himself professionally at all times. He elevated the work of his team and was an excellent member of the firm.
