About Me

Jake is a freelance drummer and educator based in New Orleans, LA.  A student of percussion for 12 years, Jake has embraced diversity and sensitivity in rhythm, playing with groups from all different genres, yet strives to bring his personal flavor to the different groups he performs with.    Jake currently has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Jazz Studies from Florida State University, where he worked with world-class faculty, and obtained real-world experience in and out of the classroom. During his time in Tallahassee, he played and recorded with a variety of different groups such as Big Daddy and Red Hot Java, Flip Flop Boys, Father Feather, Waldron Dunkley Quintet, Caleb Mason Sextet, Patternicity, Adam Hendley's Urban Soul, and most recently, The Forward Quartet. He has also participated in many of The Florida State University's music ensembles, such as the Jazz Orchestra and various jazz combos. Jake has also studied with top professionals in the percussion field, such as Leon Anderson, Dave Capuzelo, and Jason Marsalis.    Jake has also worked as an educator.  He was the Co-Drum Head at Long Lake Camp for the Arts for two years, where he was responsible for teaching private drumset lessons; writing music for, organizing, and instructing a marching drumline; and coaching various music ensembles.  Jake also teaches private drum lessons in the New Orleans area.

Formal Education:

Jake received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Jazz Studies (Drumset emphasis) from Florida State University.

Private Education:

Jake has studied with top educators such as Leon Anderson, Dave Capuzelo, Paul McKee, Marcus Roberts, Rodney Jordan, and Jason Marsalis.

Performing Experience:

Jake performs with many different groups in many different genres. For example, he has performed and toured with The Flip Flop Boys (reggae), Big Daddy and Red Hot Java (blues fusion), The Forward Quartet (modern jazz), and Adam Hendley's Urban Soul (soul/funk/R&B). 

Experience Teaching:

Jake was the Co-Head of Drums at Long Lake Camp for the Arts for two years, where he was responsible for teaching private lessons, arranging/organizing/coaching a student drumline, and coaching various music ensembles.
