My name is Marc. I grew up in Dallas and moved to Austin 14 years ago to play music and study Commercial Music Marketing at Austin Community College. I began drumming in elementary school attempting to follow in my older brother's footsteps, who at the time was on drumline at Richardson High School. In the 6th grade I officially signed up for band and began my real percussive education. I then began to play drum set from a different perspective in the 7th grade, and also started to play with rock bands. With my drum set style changing and growing rapidly, and my rudiment snare drumming and music reading blasting off, the two began to weave between each other and help in MANY ways. Summer of 2005, As I entered Berkner High School in Richardson, TX I played snare on the Varsity Drumline with the wonderful Might Ram Band. During these 3 years I spent on the drumline I learned a great deal from instructors Michael Reed and Scott Ward, which not only improved my drumming in every way, but taught me some very valuable skills for life, performing, and being part of a team. (like most band settings usually are) I continued to play in bands outside of school, and was constantly striving to be better, and play this and that like this famous drummer and that famous drummer. Among my top favorite artists that i enjoy playing to and in a way taught me some thing, are: Max Weinberg (Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band), Travis Barker (Blink-182, Transplants, +44, TRVSDJAM, etc.), Thomas Pridgen (Mars Volta, The Memorials), and Buddy Rich. As far as my teaching experience, I gave a few lessons every summer in high school between drumline sectionals and marching. I've also attended private lessons throughout the entirety of my scholastic drumming career and picked up on quite a few teaching techniques, and how to handle various situations. I have a good understanding of what type of lessons i'd like to give, and a few multi-step processes that i would go through with my students. Obviously each student is different, and on a different musical level, which is just something that me and the student will work together on to accomplish whatever he or she would like to accomplish by taking drum lessons. I would be willing to do drum set lessons or rudimental snare drumming lessons, including music reading and a little bit of music theory that is sometimes involved. I enjoy teaching and helping others grow their interest in music and can only hope that they will dive in and soak it up like I have.
Marc He has over 15 years of music experience in the Austin area.
Marc He is proficient in and teaches Drum Lessons .Formal Education:
School band program from 6-12th grade including marching band/drumline in high school and private lessons weekly during those years to work on music theory, mallet percussion, various other percussion instruments and their playing styles, and solo/ensemble work for the spring semesters after marching was done.
Private Education:
I attended private lessons through my school band program from 6th through 12th. At first they were simply to further reinforce what I had learned in the (music) classroom and begin to expand my rudiment and music reading skills. Then towards the end of junior high and during high school, the lessons were aimed more toward tightening up my skills and depending on the time of year, to work on solo's and ensemble parts for the annual Chamber Music Festival in January that we attended every year. Every so often Mr. Ward ( my high school lesson teacher) and I would do some funk and jazz drumming on drum set if there was not much else to focus on at the time. We chose these because they were they areas i was least skilled in and wanted to learn more about.
Performing Experience:
In addition to performing numerous drumline events and school functions, we went to many competitions and offsite football games to perform in the stands and Halftime. After high school I moved down to Austin and began playing live music immediately. I’ve stayed busy ever since and am currently playing with a few different groups live almost every weekend.
Experience Teaching:
During summer in High school, between drumline sectionals, marching practice, and summer fun, I taught a few kids some drum set and snare drumming.
