Joshua B.
Vocal Lessons
Home or Studio
My name is Joshua. I was born in New York City on March 22nd, 1991. For as long as I can remember, I have always sang in some capacity. I've always had the ability to sing but I didn't really start to develop and hone it until I went to Kent State University to study Vocal/Choral music.
Degree and Field of Study:
What to expect in my Vocal Lessons
First lessons will spent getting to know the student's voice and vocal habits. The student's vocal range and tessitura will determined. The student will also asked to sing a song of their choosing to prove their current skill level. Further lessons will include breaking faulty singing habits and developing good singing habits. The student will also learn performance techniques and tips for proper song interpretation.
Formal Education:
I studied Choral Music Education at Kent State University and eventually switched to a Bachelor of Arts in Music. During my time at Kent State, I studied one on one under Dr. Lara Troyer, a well known Soprano singer from Ohio and one of the Voice Faculty. My years of studies with her ended with my giving a final voice recital where I was able to demonstrate my performance skills to a crowd.
Performing Experience:
During my time at Kent State, I was blessed to perform with numerous ensembles over the years.
Experience Teaching:
While I have studied the art of vocal pedagogy at Kent State, I've not had many opportunities to take on students one on one. One of my students was the subject of a teaching project for my Vocal Pedagogy class. I did have the wonderful opportunity to give vocal lessons to a friend over the summer of 2017. This experience really improved my teaching skills and organization.
