Whether teaching the basics of guitar to a young child or discussing advanced harmonic concepts with an experienced adult, I strive to be the best teacher I can be. While in college I worked as an SAT tutor and received excellent reviews from my students, which I feel shows that I have an aptitude for the art of teaching itself. By nature I am friendly, enthusiastic, and very encouraging, and I try to create an environment where it is safe to make mistakes and any question is safe to ask. I also request constant feedback from my students to make sure that their customized lessons are delivering exactly what they want.
I was originally a self-taught player, and have since studied the curriculum of institutions like Berklee, Musician's Institute, and the Grove School of Music. As a performer, I have played hundreds of shows in various professional bands focusing on differing styles of music. I have spent the last three years studying to be a jazz composer, so I feel I have an unusually broad base of knowledge for a guitar teacher. Quite literally, my current students range from children who have never played an instrument before to those with Masters degrees from major institutions.
Whether you just want to strum a folk song, you're a singer/songwriter who wants to put chords together to support your voice, or you're an experienced player who wants to improvise in all styles of music with confidence, I can give you the tools to do so. Whether you want to rock, play funk and blues, comp jazz changes, or re-harmonize jazz standards, you've come to the right guy. I strive to do these things in an upbeat yet relaxed atmosphere, and I find I end up making friends with most of my students.
