Kayla N. Reference

It is my pleasure to write this reference on behalf of Kayla who is applying for a teaching position at Taylor Robinson Music. I have known Kayla since she was a high school student attending the University of South Dakota Summer Music Camp where I was an instructor. During the fall 2011 and spring 2012 semesters I was also her advisor, clarinet teacher, and classroom instructor at The University of South Dakota where Kayla was pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree in Clarinet Performance. I have also worked professionally with Kayla in organizations such as the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra and the Sioux City Municipal Band over the past several years. As a member of my clarinet studio, Kayla was involved in a variety of Music Department activities. She was a dedicated member of the symphonic band, concert band, marching band, pep band, orchestra, the Bee Arthur Memorial Clarinet Quartet, and the USD Woodwind Choir. In addition, Kayla was selected for an internship through the USD Music Department with the Sioux City (IA) Symphony for the 2012 – 2013 symphony season. While Kayla was a member of my clarinet studio, she was enthusiastic about volunteering to participate in any and all ensembles requiring clarinets. She worked well collaboratively and could be depended upon to be present at every rehearsal. Kayla was also my assistant at the 2012 USD Summer Music Camp where she assisted me with musicianship classes, taught clarinet lessons, and conducted listening labs for middle school and high school students. She always conducted herself in a friendly and professional manner and was able to handle a variety of unexpected situations that occurred. I have also observed Kayla in action as a teaching assistant and as the assistant conductor of the USD Symphony Orchestra – she has done a fantastic job in both of these roles! As mentioned previously, I have worked with Kayla professionally in the music community. She serves as the score reader and projectionist for the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra (I am the principal clarinetist and the Players’ Association Past President) and performs regularly with the clarinet section of the Sioux City Municipal Band (I am the principal clarinetist, a member of the board, and social media manager for this organization). Kayla is our “top call” to perform in these capacities for both organizations. I believe Kayla would truly be an asset to your organization. Holly Haddad wrote on Fri, 17 Mar 2017

    Recommendation for Kayla N.

I am pleased to write this recommendation on behalf of Ms. Kayla N, who is currently completing her Master degree in Music under my guidance at the University of South Dakota. I first became acquainted with Kayla in August 2016 when I joined the music faculty at the University of South Dakota. Since the moment I started worked with her I was immediately impressed with her hard work and professionalism. Kayla is a bright and highly motivated student. She regularly performs in our top music ensembles, such as the USD Symphonic Band, the USD Clarinet Choir and the USD Concert Band. She also has been an important leader in the outreach programs of our institution, such as serving with the logistics of our Quad State Honor Band Festival and his highly involved with our Clarinet Studio events. Kayla’s musical foundation is solid, and she has excelled in all the classes she has taken with me at our university. I have observed her teaching individual music lessons, leading ensemble rehearsals and coaching all types of music classes. I would like to emphasize that she is quite versatile as a teacher, as a conductor and as a clarinet player. She currently keeps a music studio in Vermillion, where she teaches piano and clarinet lessons with great success. I am pleased to offer her my highest recommendation. Dr.

Kayla is one of the most accomplished musicians I have met. Her performing abilities are above the norm, and her teaching style is direct, knowledgeable, and kind. She is humble, approachable, professional, reliable, and on time for everything. She is equally at home performing in any style and from any historical period, and works very well in any groups and with her peers. An asset for the University of South Dakota, she is equally respected by her peers and faculty members. Kayla is also a skilled conductor. I attended her concerts and was impressed by her conducting technique, score knowledge, and charisma on the podium. I believe she would be a great choice for your institution and I wholeheartedly recommend her. Ioana Galu wrote on Wed, 29 Mar 2017
