3 Years
I am originally from Los Angeles, California and after completing my bachelors in San Fransico I moved to Wichita to earn two master's degrees from WSU. I am a composer and pianist who has had their music played by many musiciains ranging from student to professional. I have also played my piano concerto with the Wichita State University Wind Ensemble. I am extremely passionate about music and I think it is important for people of all ages to learn how to play music and appreciate the small details that bring music to life. I had my first job tutoring students at a turtoring facily for grades K-12 in my hometown. There I helped many students in an array of subjects. From this first job I was able to harness my abilty to teach students in their own tailored way. This job taught me how students learn diffrerently and you can't create a one-size fit all curriculum for every student. While I was earning my BA I taught private piano lessons and taught students ranging from novice to adnvanced. Currently I am employed by WSU. I am the Music Theory Graduate Teaching Assistant during my time earning my second masters. I like to tailor make each students lesson plan. Depening on what the student wants to learn will determine what I teach. Whether it is leanring basic piano skills or playing popular music arranged for piano I always want my students to have fun and have their playing grow with confidence.

I have nothing but positive things to say about Luke as a teacher. I met Luke three-four years ago when he came to Wichita State University to get a masters degree in composition with me. He proved to be an excellent student and musician. When he went on to pursue a second masters degree from WSU, we awarded him a teaching assistantship to help with our theory and aural skills classes. As a part of this assistantship, he taught courses for me and always did quite well, and the students always reported back positively about him. He also taught my 6-year-old daughter one semester as a part of the piano proficiency program at WSU. He was engaging with her, patient, kind, and overall an excellent teacher for her. Luke is responsible, kind, courteous, and has a solid background in pedagogy to teach piano. Aleksander Sternfeld-Dunn, DMA wrote on Thu, 15 Jun 2017

Luke is a passionate about teaching musical competency and skill while fostering a joy for the learning process and for music itself. He is encouraging and patient as an instructor and very creative in his planning for students' learning, giving thoughtful consideration as to how to best meet each student's needs. He makes a personal investment in his students and cares deeply about growing each student's relationship with music in a way that is meaningful for them. I highly recommend him as a teacher.
