Hello! My name is Kate, and I have a great passion for kids and learning, and helping people strive to becoming the best musicians they can be. I can offer a course or design one specific for your goals/needs. This might include beginner to intermediate piano lessons, basic music theory and ear training techniques, reading clefs, time/key signatures, musical terms and musicianship skills, a continuation from previous studies, or beginning chords and basic repertoire. Whether you’re just looking for some early exposure to music, or you’d like your children to continue more formal training, I’ll help them develop a deeper appreciation and love for the gift that is music, and become the best pianists they can be. What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate
To cultivate a heart for learning and growing both as a musician as well as a person, and that music can be something simultaneously challenging and yet fun. I help you design a plan based on your individual goals, and if you don't have any goals, we can sit down a make a list together! It is my hope that through these lessons, we can work to get you playing in no time, where you can continue to dive deeper into all that music is and has to offer. Personal strengths and aptitudes will be celebrated, and areas that might not come as naturally will be encouraged with gentleness, patience, and encouragement. Whether you play more naturally by ear, or much prefer the comfort of sheet music pages in front of you, both will be encouraged. Let's do this!
What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate
Diversified, individualized lesson plans with direct student input and goal setting. It is often assumed that writing music or composing for films is reserved for the 'lucky few' but this is far from the truth. We will study emotions, flesh out your personal sound and style, and write our way through this together.
Formal Education:
High school grad, associates in music and worship arts. I am currently a student at John Brown University, getting my degree in Music with an emphasis in piano under Dr. Paul Whitley, including two years of music composition as secondary instrument.
Private Education:
Classically trained with emphasis on performance and creative music.
Performing Experience:
7 years on stage perfoming. Singing and leading worship at my church and other churches for 5 years. Keyboardist, film composer, and song-writer for 6 years playing at multiple venues including churches, coffee shops, conferences, and outdoor events, as well as several collegiate recitals.
Experience Teaching:
Teaching young children, as well as young adults to read and write music.
